Facebook pages are designed to be the official profiles for entities, such as celebrities, brands or businesses and so are visible to everyone on the internet. There is no charge to have an FB Page.
People can like and follow your page and get updates from your page in their News Feed. You can post information that your followers will see in their timeline, which they can like (and their friends might see that they’ve liked). Your followers can share your post with their friends too so more people see your page than just your followers.
If you have a website, you can advertise it on your Facebook page.
If you want to you can even look at how many people liked and shared individual posts. This information is called “Insights”.
You can respond to messages sent to your page. You can even do this automatically but that’s a whole other ball-game!
Categories
When you create a Page, you will be asked to choose a category. You can change the category later. Each category comes pre-installed with custom functionality designed for that category and different types of questions when you set it up.
Facebook business page types are:
- Local Business or Place
- Company Organization or Institution
- Brand or Product
- Artist, Band or Public Figure
- Entertainment
- Cause or Community
